E-Scooter Safety: Important Information for Parents
We have been asked by Avon & Somerset Police to share an important letter regarding the legal use of privately-owned e-scooters. The full letter is attached below for parents and carers to read.
In summary, the police are reminding families that privately owned e-scooters cannot legally be used on public roads, pavements or in any public place. They are classed as motor vehicles, which means riders would require insurance and a licence - requirements that cannot currently be met. As a result, police have the power to seize and destroy e-scooters being used illegally, and fines or penalty points may also apply.
We kindly ask parents and carers to ensure that their child or young person does not use an e-scooter to travel to or from school, as doing so would be against the law.
