Free School Meal eligibility rules have changed from September 2026. As a result, we are asking all parents/carers to complete a new eligibility check, including families whose child has previously been in receipt of Free School Meals.
What has changed?
From September 2026, Free School Meals have been expanded to include all children from households receiving Universal Credit, regardless of household earnings. This means that some families who were not previously eligible may now qualify.
Do I need to check again?
Yes. All families are asked to complete a new eligibility check, even if:
- your child already receives Free School Meals;
- you have previously applied and were told you were not eligible; or
- your circumstances have not changed.
The check is quick to complete and will confirm whether your child is eligible under the new arrangements.
Why should I apply?
If your child is eligible, they will be able to receive a free school meal while attending Voyage Learning Campus. Completing the eligibility check is also important because different types of Free School Meal eligibility can affect other support and funding available for pupils. If you are unsure whether you qualify, please complete the check anyway – the system will confirm your eligibility.
